Choosing a Topic

Choosing your topic: Controversial issues

Have you been "brainstorming"?  What is the topic of your research?  Did your professor make some suggestions for you to follow?  Did you read something in the newspaper that sounded interesting?  Or maybe a chapter in your textbook covered a topic that you would like to know more about?  If you are still looking for an issue to research, try visiting:

  • Global Issues in Context
    • This database explores broad current events and controversial topics from a global perspective. Information is arranged in topical “portals.” These portals provide a wide range of materials, including a brief overview of the topic, reference sources for background information, global news articles, images and videos, podcasts, primary source documents, scholarly journal articles, and more.
  • Credo Reference Topic Pages
    • This collection of reference books and articles covers a wide variety of subjects. The link above leads to topic pages, which you can browse alphabetically or by subject. The topic pages include a brief over view of a topic and provide links to further resources.

If you are still having trouble looking for a topic, take a look at the next page for suggestions from the local or national news.
