Job Search - Developing a List of Companies

To develop a list of companies in an industry specific to a profession or local to a particular geographic area, you may use the library's Mergent Intellect product.

In Mergent Intellect, scroll down a ways to click on “Job Search.”  Here, you will view a search screen where you may try an “Occupation Search.”  Try typing in a keyword describing the profession, and see what industry code suggestions occur.

Choose one, and you will see a list of industries ranked by number of employees.  Click on the “Code” for your industry/setting, limit geographically to Metro Area, City, or Zip Code, and then click “Search Job Opportunities.”

A list of employers will display, with sales figures and phone numbers.  You may hover over an employer’s name to see its address. To save a report of your findings, click the icon for "Export records from search results" and choose "XLS", then "Export Files".
