Legal Proceedings and Law Suits

If public corporations are involved in lawsuits this will be found under "Legal Proceedings" in their EDGAR 10K, usually within the first ten pages of the report.

Standard & Poor’s Industry Surveys (AUD/SCH REF HC106 .6 .S74) Available in book form at the Library, the S&P Industry Surveys are a 2-volume set which is printed quarterly, with information for each report updated twice annually.  Provides a section on "Lawsuits and Regulatory Pressure".

Corporate Philanthropy/Social Responsibility

Foundation Grants to Individuals Online search engine lists information for nearly 10,000 philanthropic foundations.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy conducts an annual Corporate Giving survey that recognizes America’s most profitable and socially responsible major companies.

Tax Exempt World is a deep database of nonprofits that is very easy to navigate, search, and sort total organization counts & asset amounts by state, metro area, city, county, and classification.

 

Secretaries of State

If a company is incorporated, then they must file with the Secretary of State in the state where they incorporate.  There is usually a little information in the filings.  These sites verify that the company is in business and identify officers for contact.

Illinois SOS Corporation Search can be used to find information for companies incorporated in Illinois.
