About Our Holdings

Dissertations are unique publications, in that they are usually available only at the places where they were written. Some academic libraries will lend their dissertations, while others will not.

Access to dissertations and theses produced by RU students

  • Effective June 2007, the university has moved to electronic submission and storage of RU dissertations and theses.
  • One bound copy of dissertations and theses, dating from 1952 through August 2007, is housed at the Murray-Green Library, Chicago Auditorium building. These bound copies are archival, and are for "in-library use only."
  • The Performing Arts Library will continue to collect one print copy of all music dissertations and theses that are musical compositions.
  • Bound copies can be transferred between RU campuses for students and faculty, but as "in-library use only."

University Archives Holdings

  • Beginning with Fall 2007 graduates, one unbound print copy of each new RU dissertation and thesis will be housed in the University Archives.
  • The University Archives will also house duplicate bound print copies of many, but not all of the RU dissertations and theses that were written from 1952 to Summer 2007.
  • Documents that are housed in the University Archives are available for viewing by appointment only.
