Alumni Library Services

Personal intellectual growth, transformative experiences, and improving information literacy continue long after one's time at RU. This is a guide meant to encourage alumni to progress on their lifelong learning journey.

Alumni Library Privileges

Alumni library privileges include the ability to borrow books, and access articles from Roosevelt libraries.

Visiting the Library  

Alumni are welcome to visit any of our library locations. Please note that all visitors to the University, including alumni, will be required to obtain a guest pass from the Campus Safety desk. Visitors will need to show a state-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or passport, to obtain a guest pass. In addition, guests must abide by COVID guest protocol. Alumni Card

The alumni card also serves as a library card. Alumni can obtain a card by calling the Library at 312-341-3643. The Library will attach a new barcode to the card that will act as your library card. Alumni library accounts must be renewed every fall or spring semester, though the alumni card does not expire. 


Alumni may check out an unlimited number of books from Roosevelt's circulating collection. You will need an Alumni card, which will serve as your new library card.

Only five books may be borrowed from the Performing Arts Library at one time.

Alumni may check out books for four weeks and renew them twice for a total borrowing time of three months.

Alumni may request that RU books be delivered to them either the Chicago or the Schaumburg campus.

There is a 30 day grace period beyond the due date. Books returned after their grace period are subject to a $5.00 fine per item. After 60 days, the item will be considered lost and the fee will be $60 per item. Accounts will outstanding balances over $5.00 will have a hold placed and library privileges suspended.  

Contact the Library if you need print materials or scans of journal articles owned by the Library. Please email the library at to arrange pickup or delivery of print materials or to set up a library alumni account. You may also return print items to the book drop located in the lobby of the Wabash building or mail items back to:

Book Catalog

Roosevelt books may be ordered online and delivered to either the Chicago or the Schaumburg campus. Alumni do not have borrowing privileges with I-Share libraries.

Journal Articles

Alumni may request that copies of journal articles owned by Roosevelt University be delivered to either the Chicago or the Schaumburg campus.

Electronic Databases

Alumni may access online electronic databases on-site in the library computer labs. Remote access is not allowed due to licensing agreements with the database vendors.

Interlibrary loan

ILL services are available only for current students, faculty, and staff. As stated above, alumni can request the transfer of books and journal articles from another RU campus.


Alumni may check out DVDs from the library’s video collection. Videos are checked out for seven days and cannot be renewed.

WiFi Access for Alumni

Alumni must contact the Alumni Office for guest access.
