Can I put a physical copy of a film on reserve at the library? | YES | The library will catalog and hold your film on reserve for students to come check it out for use outside class. Most library desktops have a DVD drive and headphones for checkout. |
Can I play or stream a film for an educational public event? |

Even though it may be an educational topic, public gatherings are not permitted and require permission. However, some films in our library collection may have public performance rights (PPR), those can be played for an event. |
Can I stream from Netflix or any other streaming service? |

Streaming film from any subscription platform is a violation of copyright. |
Can I show YouTube videos in class? What about sharing the link? |
YES BUT... |
Be sure that you are not altering or saving the video for distribution. Screen recording and editing the video is against copyright. As long as the video is available on YouTube, it can be shown and the links can be shared. However, if it is removed then you may no longer use it. |
Can I show live TV? |
YES |
Live broadcasts of television is permitted. However, recorded TV (DVR, VHS) is not a lawfully made copy and cannot be shown in class. |
