Resources and Examples

  1. ProQuest Library Guide for RefWorks: This library guide will provide instructions for installing and using RefWorks Write-n-Cite with PC and Mac computers. There are also instructions for use with Google Docs.
  2. University of Nebraska Kearney Library Guide: This library guide provides examples of how to do in-text citations for direct quotations and paraphrasing in ASA. There is also a chart for different situations (one work by one author, one work by four authors, groups as authors, etc. The works cited tab shows you proper formatting for the bibliography.

Generating Works Cited in ASA Style Using RefWorks

  1. Log in to your RefWorks account and select the sources you want included in your reference list (hopefully you have saved them in a file.)
  2. Select the quotation mark icon on the toolbar

  3. Select Create bibliography

  4. Select drop down menu for style and type ASA

  5. Select ASA American Sociological Association, 5th Edition
  6. Select Copy to Clipboard (NOTE: You may have to make some modifications. Refer to the printed examples on the right)

  7. Paste to the end of your paper
