Key Take Aways From Class Lecture

  1. You will find scholarly and non-scholarly information in library databases. You can choose what publication type you want (e.g., Academic Journal, Trade Publication, Newspaper, Periodical, etc) . Your choice depends on the information you are seeking.
  2. A Google site search is recommended for finding company financial information
  3. IBIS World is the best source for industry information
  4. Look at this chart to see what to do on the Reference list and In-test citations when there is information missing. The example yesterday was for a newspaper article that did not have an author because it was an editorial. Here is an example:
  • Reference list:
    Obama’s Big Mac attack. (2014, August 1). Wall Street Journal - Eastern Edition264(27), A10.
  • In-text: (NOTE: It is NOT necessary to include the entire title. Three or four words is sufficient if the reader can determine the correct entry on the Reference list.)
    • Richard Griffin, the National Labor Relations Board's general example argued that McDonald's Corporation should be held liable for all labor decisions made by franchise owners independently of the corporate office ("Obama's Big Mac Attack", 2014)
    • In "Obama's Big Mac Attack" (2014), Andrew Puzder argued that McDonald's is only paid a royalty for the trademark rights and marketing . They do not make personnel decisions about franchise employees.
