The following information is from the Using Refworks Writing Tools Add-Ons from the Refworks Libguide from ProQuest. You can get started with RCM easily and view the formatting of your in-text citations, footnotes and bibliography – all while you are writing your paper.
1. Within Microsoft Word, go to the Insert tab.
2. Then find the link for labeled Get Add-ins or possibly Store with a shopping bag icon.
3. Search for RefWorks. RefWorks Citation Manager will be listed. Select Add to install. There will be a pop-up asking you to agree to the license terms and privacy policy, and then it opens in the right sidebar.
Note:
Log into RefWorks. Synchronizing data with your RefWorks account may take a few moments, especially on your first login. You’ll notice that an RCM option showed up on your menu bar. Clicking that will bring up the menu for opening the RCM sidebar.
Tip: In most cases, there is no need to log out of RCM when you are not using it. If you are using RCM on a public computer without a personal login, you should log out of RCM when you complete your work. If someone does gain access to a system with your RefWorks library logged in to RCM, they will not be able to change anything in your account since RCM doesn’t have any features to edit your items.

You can change your citation style in the middle of creating a document. Go back to the menu, select Citation Style. From that box, choose a new citation style, and then Update.
